"Trading Spaces" talent and execs talk reboot strategy
We are pleased to announce that the upcoming 10th anniversary edition of Realscreen West will host a special case study of the return of TLC's iconic series "Trading Spaces" onĀ Wednesday, June 6 at 4:15pm. Reboots are all the rage these days, both in the scripted and unscripted genres. Reviving familiar properties can be a surefire way to generate buzz before the premiere, but once people tune in, the show has to appeal to fans of the original and new audiences. How much of the "DNA" of the original should you retain, and how much do you dare to freshen up for a new generation of viewers? This session will provide a special case study of TLC's Trading Spaces. Learn from execs and talent behind the series about the strategy behind bringing the updated version to life.
Amazon Studios' Heather Schuster joins as keynote
We are delighted to announce that Realscreen West will host a one-on-one keynote conversation with Heather Schuster, Head of Unscripted TV for Amazon Studios, on Tuesday, June 5 at 4:15 p.m.
In her post, Schuster oversees documentary series, unscripted formats and alternative comedy. In her first six months at Amazon, she has overseen the launch of the larger 'All or Nothing' sports programming brand and Will Ferrell's live comedy special on New Year's Day, as well as spearheading new development, including the recently-announced Lorena Bobbitt docuseries from executive producer Jordan Peele. Prior to Amazon, she served as chief creative officer for Detour, a location-aware travel content app founded by Andrew Mason, founder of Groupon, where she scaled the company up for a global launch and staffed 40 producers from around the world to create 120 hours of content. Before Detour, Schuster launched and was CEO for All3Media-backed unscripted prodco Morocco Junction Entertainment. Prior to that, she served as SVP/head of unscripted television for Ryan Seacrest Productions; and also spent four years with Reveille/Shine America as a showrunner and as SVP of creative affairs. Cable and broadcast franchises she has developed and overseen include Tabatha's Salon Takeover, Biggest Loser, and MasterChef. She has produced cable and broadcast series for studios such as Mark Burnett Productions, ITV and FTVS. In her keynote conversation, Heather Schuster will discuss her ambitions for Amazon's unscripted division, the impact of new buyers and platforms upon the unscripted content industry, and how producers can work with her and her team.
