D’Angela Proctor is TV One’s SVP of Original Programming & Production. In this role, she provides strategic direction for all original  programming and oversees all development  and current production for the network.

Since joining TV One in 2014, Proctor launched the country’s first and only daily news program dedicated to the African American audience, News One Now featuring Roland S. Martin. News One Now is now the number 1 cable news program among African American viewers, ages 25-54. Proctor has also been the driving force behind ushering the network into the original movie business, including the development and production of 19 original movies in less than 3 years that have premiered to record-breaking ratings results.

Under her original programming leadership, TV One is on a definitive trajectory that is sure to solidify the network as the premiere destination for viewers who desire a multi-dimensional view of African American life and culture. This includes its June 2016 performance where TV One had its best primetime performance among key demos in its history. This success was fueled by the network’s first-everUnsungfeature film, Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story, docu-series Rickey Smiley For Real and its signature series Unsung. Proctor consistently demonstrates a winning formula: vision with the ability to execute. As a result, her passion project, Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story, not only drove the network to its best June ever, it also performed as the network’s best original movie premiere (1.1 premiere rating, reaching over 2 million viewers).

These accomplishments have not gone unnoticed. For three years straight from 2014-present, Proctor has been honored by Cablefax Magazine as one of the most influential minorities in cable and in 2015, she was honored by Multichannel News in conjunction with Women in Cable Television as a Woman to Watch.

Undeterred from exploring difficult and controversial topics, Proctor led TV One in its unveiling of two culturally impactful original films: Bad Dad Rehab and The Secret She Kept. Bad Dad Rehab, starring Malik Yoba (Empire, New York Undercover), Wesley Jonathan (Soul Man, Crossover), Robert Ri’chard (One on One, Cousin Skeeter), and Rick Gonzalez (War  of the Worlds, Coach Carter) delved into the importance of fatherhood, family and community, as well as explored the importance daddies needing to “daddy.” The Secret She Kept starring Kyla Pratt (One on One, The Proud Family), Gavin Houston (The Haves and the Have Nots), Kellita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show) and Vanessa Williams (Soul Food, Melrose Place)  took  a courageous look at mental illness in African American women.

A veteran of music, film and television entertainment, Proctor joined TV One from Strange Fruit Media, where she was a co-owner and co-president. During her 15 years with Strange Fruit, Proctor developed, created and/or produced music videos, live music and comedy recordings, documentaries, feature films and television series. In the television arena, Proctor served as an executive producer  and creative consultant to Black Entertainment Television from 2008 to 2010.  During that time, she developed and/or executive produced multiple film and television projects including Sunday Best, which earned the 43rd Annual NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Reality Series in 2011. She also created the OWN docu-reality series Love in the City. Prior to that, Proctor produced television series Exalted and One Night Only and feature films The Seat Filler and Book of Love, among others.

Previously, Proctor practiced labor and employment defense law at Reed, Smith, Shaw & McClay in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is a seasoned litigator who represented clients in the banking, public utilities and corporate sectors. Proctor earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Spelman College and a Juris Doctorate from Duquesne University, where she is also a candidate for a Masters in Leadership. Proctor currently resides in Washington, DC, with her son Nikolas.
