Michael Schneider

TV Editor

Variety

Michael Schneider is the Executive Editor of Indiewire, the leading digital brand devoted to curating, reporting, and celebrating the best in film, TV and entertainment. He is also an Editor-At-Large for Variety, the nation’s premiere brand covering the entertainment industry, and a regular contributor to Los Angeles public radio station KCRW, where he hosts The Spin-Off, a monthly podcast about the TV industry, and also regularly appears on the radio programs The Business and Press Play.

As a boy, Michael collected copies of TV Guide and programmed his own imaginary TV network. What seemed awfully odd back then came to good use later in life, as Michael has spent more than 20 years covering the TV business. He was previously the Chief Content Officer at TV Guide Magazine, where he spent five years (and also helped launch the website TV Insider). Prior to that, he was TV editor of Variety and Daily Variety for 12 years. And before that, he was the Los Angeles bureau chief of the weekly TV trade Electronic Media (later known as Television Week).

As the blogger behind Franklin Avenue (www.franklinavenue.net), Michael writes about Los Angeles media, restaurants, politics and events for the blog, which has appeared in such publications as the Los Angeles Times and Los Angeles Magazine. He also organizes the annual "Great Los Angeles Walk" urban hike through the city, named a "Best of LA" event by LA Weekly.

As a television expert, Schneider has appeared on ABC World News Tonight and Primetime Live, NBC's Today show and Dateline NBC, CBS' Early Show, G4's Attack of the Show, E! News Daily, CNN, MSNBC, Access Hollywood, NPR and many other programs and outlets. He also served as a reality show judge on a Fox Reality Channel show you probably didn't see. Michael is a Northwestern Univ. graduate and lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two young boys.
