Matthew Kelly serves as Senior Director of Development, Discovery Channel. In this role, Kelly has developed numerous key series for Discovery Channel, includingGold Rush, Jungle Gold,Yukon MenandAuction Kings. He also developed and co-executive produced Discovery’s most recent hit series,Amish Mafia.Gold Rushcurrently stands as the highest rated series on Discovery Channel whileAmish Mafiaholds the Discovery Channel record as the #1 series launch among key network demos including Persons and Men 25-54, P/M 18-49 and P/M 18-34.
Prior to working with Discovery Channel, Kelly served as Director of Program Development at Science Channel. During his tenure with Science, Kelly developed several series includingOddities, which lead to two spinoff shows.
Before joining Science, Kelly was editor for Journey Films, Inc. and worked on the company’s first theatrical documentary,Bonhoeffer, which earned numerous awards and honors, including the Gabriel Award for Best Documentary, the Silver Screen Award at the U.S. Film and Video Festival, the Columbus International Film and Video Festival Best Documentary Award and Best Documentary at the Rhode Island International Film Festival, among others.
Kelly holds a Master of Business Administration from New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business, and he earned a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies from Northwestern University.
Kelly is based at Discovery Communications’ Silver Spring headquarters.
