David Lee is Vice President of Content and Production for MotorTrend Group, a Discovery company. He is responsible for coordinating with all departments to ascertain and execute content needs in order to help super serve audiences and achieve business goals. Lee also oversees MotorTrend Studio projects and third-party production partnerships.
Lee joined Discovery as Director of Development three months prior to the launch of Velocity (now MotorTrend TV) in October 2011. He was instrumental in helping Velocity increase ratings two-fold among its target M25-54 demo. Also, under his tenure, Velocity had an astounding strike rate of more than 90% of freshman series renewed for sophomore runs.
He has served as the lead executive producer for Barrett-Jackson Live, overseeing nearly 100 hours of live programming that was broadcast on MotorTrend’s streaming service and on MotorTrend TV. In addition, Lee serves as the executive producer of several top series including: MotorTrend TV’s highest rated series in Bitchin' Rides; the spin-off series Bitchin' Bootcamp on MotorTrend’s streaming service; the acclaimed docuseries Nascar All In: Battle For Daytona and Nascar 2020: Under Pressure; MotorTrend linear and streaming live coverage of the 24 Hours of Le Mans; and the upcoming MotorTrend App series Kevin Hart's Muscle Car Crew and more.
Prior to joining Discovery, Lee served as Sr. Coordinating Producer, Remote Production for FOX-owned Speed (previously Speedvision), overseeing all aspects of coverage for the network’s various live properties including NASCAR, Formula 1, Sportscars, Barrett-Jackson Auctions and others. He also held various roles in studio based and long form post productions.
Lee began his television career at ESPN after graduating from Castleton University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications. He is based out of MotorTrend Group’s global headquarters in Los Angeles.
