Steve Cheskin is Senior Vice President of Programming at REELZ— a leading independent cable and satellite general entertainment network that is home to factual entertainment, television events, miniseries, movies and series with a focus on the real lives and real stories of real celebrities. Programming ranges from the critically acclaimed and award-winning The Kennedys to Autopsy: The Last Hours Of…, National Enquirer Investigates, Scandal Made Me Famous and the miniseries The Kennedys-After Camelot. REELZ is currently available in 70 million households nationwide.
Prior to joining REELZ, Cheskin was the Executive Vice President of Programming at TLC. During his time there TLC led all cable networks in successful launches of new series. Programs developed during this period include Sister Wives, Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta, Sarah Palin's Alaska and Extreme Couponing. Before TLC, Cheskin was the Senior Vice President of Programing at WEtv. Under Cheskin’s leadership, the network significantly increased its original programming including hits Bridezillas, The Locator and My Fair Wedding. Delivery in the network's primary demographics increased over 100% by the time he left the network.
Previously, Cheskin worked for Discovery Communications for 18 years. Beginning his career at The Discovery Channel, Cheskin created “Shark Week”, which has been inducted into the cable marketing hall of fame. Moving to TLC Cheskin became Vice President of Programming. During this period, programs including Trauma, Junkyard Wars and Trading Spaces were developed and helped build the network into one of cables top performers. He then became General Manager of the Travel Channel where the network quickly became one of the fastest growing networks both in ratings and distribution. The network’s hit series The World Poker Tour helped launch the nationwide poker craze.
