Sara Helman joined Destination America over a year ago as Senior Director of Development & Production. Reporting to GM Marc Etkind, she helps oversee development strategy for the network and assists with the creation of series and programming initiatives, as well as oversees production on Hillbilly Blood, Buying the Bayou, Deep Fried Masters and several other ongoing series for the network.
Prior to joining Destination America, Helman served as Director of Programming at Food Network and Cooking Channel, overseeing such network hits as Sweet Genius, 3 Days to Open, $24 in 24, Not My Mama's Meals, and Extra Virgin. Preceding her stint at Food Network, Helman served as Director of Development at Animal Planet where she developed network successes such as Tanked, Hillbilly Handfishin', Too Cute, Pit Boss, and My Cat From Hell.
Helman is a proud graduate of the University of Michigan with a BA in English Lit and Film/Video Studies. She currently resides in Brooklyn, NY but her favorite destination in America will always be her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.
