Russ McCarroll is a Vice President of Programming and Development for HISTORY. A hands on executive, he created and developed two of HISTORY’s biggest recent successes,The Men Who Built America and Mountain Men. In his six years at HISTORY Russ has also overseen some of the networks most successful series including Pawn Stars, Ax Men, and Top Gear.McCarroll received Emmy nominations for HISTORY’s critically acclaimed The Men Who Built America in 2013 and the special Rise and Fall of the Third Reich in 2010. He currently is developing a variety of scripted and unscripted programming for the network.
Prior to joining HISTORY in 2008, Russ was an independent producer, living in New York City and working on projects for among others TNT, NBC and the NBC Sports Network. McCarroll was a producer at The Today Show from 2002 to 2006. Before joining NBC, he was a freelance sports producer working on a wide array of programming from NBA basketball, Major League Baseball, and the US Tennis Open to the Eco-Challenge, Iditarod and the Gravity Games. His work was recognized in 2000 and 2006 with Emmy Awards. And in 2005, Russ was honored with an Edward R. Murrow award for writing.
