Alan Wieder, vice president of series development for MTV, has a unique background in both unscripted and scripted content. He began his career as a staff producer at Rocket Science Labs, where he worked on some the reality genre’s earliest hits, including Joe Millionaire, Temptation Island, and My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiancé (which he co-created). After selling a feature spec to Warner Brothers, he then worked for 6 years as a screenwriter, completing rewrites of studio comedies for Warners, Universal, Sony, and Summit. He returned to reality tv in 2013 to become head of development for Maverick TV, where he helped launch the hit series Chrisley Knows Best on USA. He joined MTV’s unscripted team early this year and is developing a diverse slate that includes reality formats, docuseries, game shows, and comedy hybrids.
