Realscreen West has sold out
For the second year running, Realscreen West – which takes place next week in Santa Monica – has sold out, with a wait-list now in effect for those still hoping to attend. The news marks the second time the conference, which launched in 2009 as the Factual Entertainment Forum, has reached capacity, after selling out last year. It also comes after realscreen's flagship event, the Washington DC-based Realscreen Summit, also sold out earlier this year. With registration for Realscreen West now closed, a short wait-list is available in the event of any cancellations. Those still hoping to attend should email Joel Pinto at jpinto@brunico.com

Who's Got Game
The recent surge in popularity of social media and online gaming has led to a resurgence of game show formats being created and produced globally. It's also served to highlight the concept of gamification – which analyst Deloitte defines as "fun, play, transparency, design and challenge" – in television programming. How is gameplay influencing unscripted programming today, and how are forward-thinking networks and producers developing content that incorporates the concept?

Amping Up Unscripted
As unscripted programming has made an indelible imprint on both cable and broadcast, networks that had not previously entered the domain of reality TV are testing out the waters with programs from some of the industry's top producers, and those that have added reality to their schedules over the last few years are upping their original unscripted hours. Hear from programmers from such U.S. cable nets and get the scoop on what they, and their audiences, are looking for. Be sure to check out the return of one of our signature sessions, Amping Up Unscripted, in which networks that are upping unscripted/non-fiction content in their schedules reveal what they want, and their plans for scheduling factual programming in the immediate future.

Beers, Berman, Cutforth and Saade talk awards
At long last, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has created a Reality Peer Group, which has changed the voting process to assure that reality Academy members play a more significant role in selecting the Emmys awarded in the Reality and Reality Competition categories. So with the Emmys out to recognize a wider scope of reality programming, and with established kudos such as our own Realscreen Awards recognizing the myriad sub-genres within the ever-expanding world of reality, how and why does a show pick up such props from peers? What roles do ratings, buzz, production pizzazz and yes, bucks spent on campaigns play in getting the chance to make that well-crafted acceptance speech? Find out from members of reality's A-list what shows they think should get their due, and peek behind the curtain to find out how they got the hard-earned props that their shows have deserved over the years.
Props Shop kicks off the fifth edition of Realscreen West, which is quickly reaching capacity. Well over 600 delegates from around the world are already registered to attend the pre-eminent conference for producers, broadcasters and distributors of unscripted fare on the West Coast. The two-day conference takes place at the fabulous Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica, June 5 & 6 and includes admission to the Realscreen Awards where we'll pay tribute to outstanding content that entertains and engages audiences around the world.

Learn from the masters
As part of our mandate to grow and improve our events year over year, the realscreen team looks for new ways to improve the conference experience for our delegates. At the Realscreen Summit in January we introduced Meet a Mentor sessions hosted by some of the industry's most successful producers. They were an enormous hit and we are thrilled to bring them to Realscreen West in Santa Monica on June 5 and 6. Meet the mentors that have agreed to provide delegates with unprecedented access in an informal and interactive setting.
Meet a Mentor sessions are "off the record" and pre-sign up is required. Session sign up commences May 15, and you must be registered to attend the event by then to participate.
